Bologna train station

Bologna – Italy

Located in the new square by Bologna Centrale train station, the Shoah Memorial is surrounded by two majestic walls cladded in Vicenza Stone. A strategic point for the city of Bologna, which acquires a new significance and value thanks to the installation of this landmark, perfectly harmonious with the surrounding environment.

The material selected for this project is Vicenza Stone in the “Pietra del Mare” variant, extracted from Grassi Pietre’s quarries in the Berici Hills (Vicenza Province). The warm and neutral colour of “Pietra del Mare” set a contrast with the Corten steel of the Memorial, designed by SET Architect. The stone was installed according to the ventilated wall technique and creates rectangular modules which delineate a harmonic pattern on the wall surfaces. The cladded walls orthogonally positioned beside the installation bring the eye to stop and admire the refinement of the realization.

For this project, SET Architects studio (Rome) was awarded the first prize “Young Italian Architects 2018” (Dedalo Minosse).

Grassi Pietre supplied approximately 450 sqm of tiles in Pietra del Mare, honed finish, 4 cm thick.
